{"id":13723,"date":"2013-06-18T13:48:23","date_gmt":"2013-06-18T17:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/therapytoronto.ca\/news\/?p=13723"},"modified":"2013-06-18T01:23:50","modified_gmt":"2013-06-18T05:23:50","slug":"study-suggests-having-values-aligned-with-those-of-employer-can-lead-to-promotion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/therapytoronto.ca\/news\/2013\/06\/study-suggests-having-values-aligned-with-those-of-employer-can-lead-to-promotion\/","title":{"rendered":"Study suggests having values aligned with those of employer can lead to promotion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the Washington University in St. Louis press release via ScienceDaily:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14016\" alt=\"hispanic_boss\" src=\"http:\/\/therapytoronto.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/hispanic_boss.jpg\" width=\"290\" height=\"220\" \/>Employees looking to move up within their organization should get on board with the goals and values of their employer<\/strong>, according to new research from Washington University in St. Louis.<\/p>\n<div id=\"text\">\n<p>The study, &#8220;Status and the True Believer: The Impact of Psychological Contracts on Social Status Attributions of Friendship and Influence,&#8221; shows that <strong>employees who are &#8220;true believers&#8221; in the mission of their organization gain more influence in the company<\/strong>, while those who are not as invested in the company&#8217;s mission become pushed to the periphery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In mission-driven companies &#8212; companies like Whole Foods Market or REI &#8212; the people who emerge as leaders are more than just nice guys.
