{"id":28498,"date":"2019-05-05T09:08:01","date_gmt":"2019-05-05T13:08:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/therapytoronto.ca\/news\/?p=28498"},"modified":"2019-04-06T15:24:19","modified_gmt":"2019-04-06T19:24:19","slug":"study-suggests-complications-during-birth-and-later-social-anxiety-in-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/therapytoronto.ca\/news\/2019\/05\/study-suggests-complications-during-birth-and-later-social-anxiety-in-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Study suggests complications during birth and later social anxiety in children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the Wiley press release:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p id=\"first\" class=\"lead\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-20209\" src=\"http:\/\/therapytoronto.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/AnxiousChild-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>A new study published in\u00a0<em>Infant and Child Development<\/em>\u00a0indicates that <strong>complications during birth may increase the risk that children will develop social anxiety by their pre-teen years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"text\">\n<p>For the study, 149 children aged nine to 12 years were screened for <strong>behavioral inhibition<\/strong> &#8212; a tendency to <strong>exhibit a fearful disposition<\/strong> and <strong>withdrawal in unfamiliar contexts and situations<\/strong> &#8212; and assessed for social anxiety symptoms using parent- and child-reports.
