Investigators found that <strong>perinatal complications<\/strong> were associated with <strong>higher levels of behavioral inhibition<\/strong> and <strong>social anxiety symptoms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, analyses suggested that behavioral inhibition acted as a pathway between birth complications and social anxiety symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This study sets the stage for future longitudinal work examining whether childhood temperament is a developmental path by which birth complications lead to social anxiety symptoms,&#8221; said lead author Dr. Santiago Morales, of the University of Maryland.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Wiley press release: A new study published in\u00a0Infant and Child Development\u00a0indicates that complications during birth may increase the risk that children will develop social anxiety by their pre-teen years.
