{"id":31430,"date":"2020-04-19T16:38:03","date_gmt":"2020-04-19T20:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/therapytoronto.ca\/news\/?p=31430"},"modified":"2020-04-14T02:12:27","modified_gmt":"2020-04-14T06:12:27","slug":"study-suggests-restricting-sleep-may-affect-emotional-reactions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/therapytoronto.ca\/news\/2020\/04\/study-suggests-restricting-sleep-may-affect-emotional-reactions\/","title":{"rendered":"Study suggests restricting sleep may affect emotional reactions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the Wiley press release:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In a recent\u00a0<strong><em>Journal of Sleep Research<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0study, <strong>participants perceived pleasant and neutral pictures in a more negative way when their sleep was restricted for several nights in a row<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the study, participants were tested the morning after 5 nights of regular sleep and after 5 consecutive nights of sleep restriction (5 hours a night).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Insufficient sleep may impose a negative emotional bias<\/strong>, leading to an <strong>increased tendency to evaluate emotional stimuli as negative<\/strong>,&#8221; said lead author Daniela Tempesta, PhD, of the University of L&#8217;Aquila, in Italy.
